Summary: EBoox is an e-book reader that stores your library and reading activity on your device. If you enable Google Drive sync, the App uploads your books and reading data to your own Google Drive application-data folder. We do not sell your personal information.

This Privacy Policy explains how EBoox (the “App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the App. By using the App, you acknowledge the practices described below.

1. Information the App Handles

1.1 Local books and files

When you select a book, link a folder, or allow all-files access, the App may read compatible documents from your device so it can import, display, organize, and synchronize them. This may include the contents of the selected book files, file names, formats, file locations, titles, authors, and available document metadata.

The App does not upload your local files to us. Book files leave your device only when you choose to enable and use Google Drive sync, or when you intentionally share or open content through another service.

1.2 Library and reading data

The App stores information needed to provide its reading features, including:

Imported books, book titles, authors, and formats;
Shelves, linked folders, hidden-book status, and favorites;
Reading progress, last-read time, finished status, bookmarks, notes, and saved text;
Reader preferences such as theme, font, margins, line spacing, brightness, language, sorting, and page-turn settings; and
Sync preferences and the time of the most recent synchronization.

This information is stored locally on your device unless you enable Google Drive sync.

1.3 Google account information

If you choose Google Drive sync, the App receives the email address of the Google account you select and stores it locally to identify the active sync account. Authentication is handled by Google services. We do not receive or store your Google password.

1.4 Network information

The App checks whether the device is connected through Wi-Fi when you enable the “Wi-Fi only” sync option. This check is performed to decide whether synchronization should run. We do not use it to identify nearby networks or determine your location.

2. Permissions

Internet access: used for optional Google account authorization, Google Drive synchronization, and opening online content that you request.
File and folder access: used to find, import, read, and organize e-book files. You can use the Android document picker to grant access to selected files or folders.
All-files access: if you grant this optional Android permission, the App can scan shared storage for supported books. You can revoke it at any time in Android Settings.

3. Optional Google Drive Sync

Google Drive sync is optional and starts only after you select a Google account and authorize access. The App requests access only to its own hidden application-data area in your Google Drive account; it does not request access to your other Drive files.

When sync is enabled, the App may upload:

Your imported e-book files; and
A backup containing library metadata, shelves, reading progress, bookmarks, notes, saved text, favorites, and reader preferences.

The App may download this information to restore or merge your library on another device. Your Google account email and last-sync time remain local and are not included in the backup.

EBoox’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will comply with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

4. How We Use Information

We use information handled by the App only to:

Import, display, search, organize, and read e-books;
Save reading progress, bookmarks, notes, and preferences;
Provide optional backup and synchronization through Google Drive;
Restore missing synchronized books to your device; and
Maintain the security, reliability, and functionality of the App.

5. Sharing and Third-Party Services

We do not sell or rent your personal information. Information is disclosed only as needed for features you choose, to comply with law, or to protect users and the App.

The App uses Google Play services, Google Sign-In, and the Google Drive API for optional account authorization and synchronization. Google processes information under its own Privacy Policy.

If you open a website or content in another app, that third party’s privacy practices apply. We are not responsible for third-party websites, apps, or services.

6. Data Storage and Retention

On-device data: remains on your device until you delete the relevant content, clear the App’s storage, or uninstall the App.
Google Drive data: remains in your Google Drive application-data folder until it is overwritten or deleted through your Google account and Drive settings.
Account connection: you can sign out in the App and revoke the App’s Google access from your Google Account settings.

We do not operate a separate server that stores your library, reading data, or Google Drive backup.

7. Your Choices and Controls

You can:

Decline or revoke file permissions in Android Settings;
Choose individual files or folders instead of granting all-files access;
Use the App without Google Drive sync;
Sign out of Google Drive sync and revoke Google account access;
Delete books, shelves, bookmarks, and notes in the App; and
Clear all local App data through Android Settings or uninstall the App.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical measures and Android platform protections to safeguard information handled by the App. However, no storage or transmission method is completely secure. You are responsible for protecting access to your device and Google account.

9. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us.

10. International Data Transfers

If you use Google services, Google may process information in countries other than your own in accordance with its terms and privacy policy.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the App, legal requirements, or our practices. We will publish the revised policy with a new effective date. Continued use of the App after an update means the revised policy applies.
